Frequently Asked Questions
The Plural Association is a ‘by plurals, for plurals’ nonprofit, that was founded in the Netherlands on February 5th 2020. You might know us from our Plural Warmline project.
‘’Empower plurals, where plurals is defined as everyone who self-identifies as being or having more than one individual within a single body, by developing and using their capacities to actively shape their own lives and that of the plural community and the society of which they are part, in economic, social and political terms.’’ You can read the full mission in a document called statutes.
No we are not. We chose to register as a nonprofit in the Netherlands first. We did this because we are an international organisation and the startup cost in the Netherlands is only 500 euros. However, we are a dutch SBBI stichting (nonprofit) which means we are an ‘institution representing social interest’ (Sociaal Belangen Behartigende Instelling.) and we do not pay tax over your donations!
TPA is a collective effort by plurals, for plurals. To meet our main team, please scroll down at the about page.
A warmline is a line people can call and reach out to (long) before they could reach a potential crisis. The Plural Warmline is a line plurals can call to share their stories and worries with another lived experienced plural.
Anyone who self identifies as Plural or anyone who experiences or questions being or having more than one individual in a single body is welcome. So if you do not self identify with the Plural label, but you are multiple for whatever reason, you are of course welcome!
Since this is a community project it’s hard to estimate how long it will take to fundraise. We also have to train our volunteers before we can start accepting calls. In the meantime we invite you to join AlterNation.
We try to keep our overhead cost as low as possible. Hence everyone works from home and we use a much cheaper virtual office space instead. We will build a platform that includes email, chat and a phone warmline option. We know from other warmlines that a call costs around $10 us dollars. Which means we also will have ongoing cost. Hence we ask people to consider to sign up for recurring donations, to help us ensure our services year round. Donations start at $3 a month, to hopefully make it accessible to many people. Every dollar helps, together we are stronger!
Yes, The Plural Association depends on community support. Altho we have the aspiration of applying for grants, we want to make sure that the warmline and TPA itself will always be and stay by plurals for plurals. The safest and easiest way to ensure this is to make it a community based project.
Sign up form can be found on the volunteer page of this website. We are currently accepting applications of plural volunteers who are able and willing to follow our free training in English and want to work for the warmline project. We are looking to fill up an advisory board, with plurals of various backgrounds, to represent the many different forms of plurality out there. We are looking for fundraiser supervisors, community organisers, social media planners, writers, content creators and artists. If you feel you have something to offer that was not mentioned here, please feel free to reach out to us. Have a look at our volunteer page for more information.
Plural is an umbrella term. TPA describes it as: ”Everyone who self-identifies as being or having more than one individual within a single body.”
People who do not self identify with the plural label but are multiple are of course also welcome!
